Protect yourself from sunburn this summer!

Be mindful

When it is finally summertime again the first thing everyone wants to do is go out and enjoy the weather! Sometimes we forget to pack sunscreen or think about how long we will be exposed to the suns rays. Did you know getting sunburn twice a summer can increase your chances of getting melanoma skin cancer by three times? Sunburn should not be taken lightly here’s what you need to know about it.

What is sunburn?

The suns rays have 3 types of UV radiation in them.

  • UVA
  • UVB
  • UVC

Only UVA & UVB reach the earth’s surface. When we are exposed to this radiation for an elongated period of time our skin will start to burn. Different skin types will have different resistances to sunburn depending on a number of factors such as Thickness & color.

Minor vs Severe sunburn

Minor sunburn will include

  • redness on skin
  • snesativty to touch
  • peeling

If you have a minor sunburn you can treat it by putting lotion on the skin to start healing your skin cells. Aloe Vera helps with pain, getting lotion infused with aloe will give you the best results in recovery.

Severe sunburn will include

  • Sun blisters/puss
  • Extreme pain & Sensitivity on skin
  • Dehydration
  • Nasua
  • Balck out
  • Fatigue
  • high pulse

If you are suffered from these symptoms AFC Urgent Care will treat you & have you back out there to enjoy the rest of the summer!
