Most common sports injuries

AFC Urgent Care offers services to help children that have received a sports injury. About 37% of kids who play sports in school will get some sort of injury. It is important to be prepared & take precautions when entering your kids in sports, especially certain contact sports such as

  • Football
  • Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Baseball

These often result in a higher amount of injuries than other sports.

If we believe your child has any broken bones or contusion we might recommend they get an X-Ray. We treat a numerous amount of injuries such as:

  • Bone bruising
  • Break to minor body parts ( toes, fingers, kneecap, nose)
  • Bone chipping
  • Fracture (hairline, Traverse, Oblique)
  • Shin splints

If you are suffering from any of these injuries we know the correct treatments to give you. In addition, we stock a wide variety of Durable Medical Equipment (DME), such as crutches, walking boots, wrist splints and more. We can also do splinting on site and give you a direct referral to an orthopedic surgeon if necessary.

Contact sports sometimes result in the skin being cut. We treat minor to moderately severe cuts & gashes. We will wash & clean wounds & then judge if the patient needs stitches. Cuts deeper than a few centimeters will most likely need stitches. We perform stitches on:

  • Feet
  • Legs
  • hands
  • Torso

The most common sports injury is a pulled muscle or sprain. These injuries are constantly overlooked & that is what makes them dangerous. Of course, these injuries can be avoided easily with proper stretching & hydration. If your child feels they have a pain that could be a sprain bring them in today! AFC Urgent Care Swampscott has providers that will assess & give treatment to help get you back on the playing field.
